FAQs on Sterile Mouse Experiments

Can customers bring sterile mice back to their own laboratory for experimental research?

Sterile mice need to live and conduct experiments in a sterile isolator, and are fed with sterile feed and water. They cannot complete transportation, breeding, experimentation, and other operations in the external ordinary environment. If direct sampling is considered, a sterile transporter can be used to bring the mice back to the laboratory for immediate sampling.

Is it possible to use an electronic scale for weighing in the isolation package?

The living environment and experimental conditions of sterile mice are strictly sterile. Electronic devices cannot be sterilized by high temperature and pressure or using sterilizing agents, therefore, they cannot be used for weighing with an electronic scale. Our platform uses sterilizable balance weights for weighing.

Is it possible to perform surgery within the isolation package?

Surgical instruments can be sterilized at high temperatures and pressures, so simple surgeries can be performed within the isolation package. However, due to the thick operation gloves in the isolation device, training is required before the surgery. Additionally, attention should be paid to whether the surgical instruments, reagents, and consumables can be sterilized or are in a sterile state.

Can mice from different groups be raised in the same isolation bag?

Mice from different groups with the same microbial treatment conditions can be considered for placement in the same isolation bag, but specific analysis should be based on the experimental protocol. The risk of microbial cross-contamination exists when different microbial conditions are present, and placing them in the same isolation bag can affect the experimental results, therefore they cannot be placed in the same isolation bag. In addition, it is necessary to determine whether experiments can be conducted in one isolation bag based on the number of experimental animals.

Can you provide mouse decontamination services?

Yes, we can provide sterile decontamination services for both conventional and genetically engineered strains of mice.
