Metatranscriptomic sequencing

Metatranscriptomic sequencing is a research method that investigates the transcriptional profile and regulatory patterns of the entire genome of a specific population in a particular environment at a global level. It focuses on studying all RNA molecules present in an ecological environment, circumventing the challenges associated with microbial isolation and cultivation. This technique effectively expands the utilization space of microbial resources. Compared to metagenomics, metatranscriptomics allows for the study of complex microbial community changes at the transcriptional level, enabling better exploration of potential novel genes.

Application areas

Metatranscriptomic sequencing technology can detect active microorganisms, active transcripts, and functional activities in the environment. It can also compare differential gene expressions and functional differences across different environments, revealing microbial adaptation mechanisms under different environmental stresses and exploring the interaction mechanisms between the environment and microorganisms. This technology has been widely applied in the following fields:

1、Medical field: Research on the relationship between human microbiota and diseases, identification of molecular markers and drug targets, etc.

2、Ecological field: Interactions between rhizosphere microorganisms and plants, development of microbial products, studies on metabolic regulation, etc.

Industrial field: Changes in the functional activities of microorganisms during brewing/fermentation processes, development of microbial bioactive substances, bioenergy, environmental pollution monitoring, and bioremediation.
